When? Friday, 27th Aug 2010
Old Hall takes the prize as top Mild Pub
CAMRA promotes Mild throughout May and celebrated National Mild Day on Saturday 8 May 2010. The Old Hall is keen to help bring awareness to this traditional drink and took part in the Mild Challenge this year, stocking dozens of different cask milds along with many other pubs in the Derbyshire, Manchester and Greater Manchester region. We are delighted to have been chosen as the winner of the best mild pub of the challenge. We don't stock milds permanently, but as the demand grows we stock them on a guest rotation regularly and will continue to do so more and more frequently....
Join us on August the 27th (friday night) when we are presented with our award. More details will follow so keep an eye on our website. One thing you can be sure will be present will be some great cask milds...
What is mild?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Milds are black to dark brown to pale amber in colour and come in a variety of styles from warming roasty ales to light refreshing lunchtime thirst quenchers. Malty and possibly sweet tones dominate the flavour profile but there may be a light hop flavour or aroma. Slight diacetyl (toffee/butterscotch) flavours are not inappropriate. Alcohol levels are typically low.
Pale milds tend to have a lighter, more fruity aroma with gentle hoppiness.
Dark milds may have a light roast malt or caramel character in aroma and taste.
Scottish cask beers may have mild characteristics with a dominance of sweetness, smooth body and light bitterness.
Original gravity: less than 1043
Typical alcohol by volume: less than 4.3%
Final gravity 1004 - 1010
Bitterness 14 - 28 EBU
